This is done by using the best suitable high quality product according to the pet’s individual needs and then customising the grooming to accordingly.  Exceptional service is the standard and Mart goes above and beyond the call of duty.

To enhance the natural beauty of all four-pawed people we utilise special techniques and products when grooming.

Various products are used to pamper the pets, depending on breed, skin sensitivities or special needs.  All the products are 100% bio-degradable and animal-cruelty free. Products from the Wampum range, Natural Espree, TropiClean, Spa (Aroma Therapy) shampoos, conditioners and UV Protector Sprays are used. 

The products are also available in the Bark about it Boutique and can be purchased at special prices.  Natural Espree’s Oatmeal Baking Soda Shampoo removes odours whilst Natural Espree’s honey & Oat Conditioner leaves your pet soft.  Purl advanced De-tangling Pet shampoo is ideal to remove stubborn tangles and Wampum’s Conditioning Rinse Concentrate makes the hair limp, soft and glossy and serves as an excellent leave-in conditioner.

Each pet’s grooming session is individualised according to the pet’s condition, breed, size, temperament and how easy or time-consuming the process is.  Temperamental or traumatised animals who require special care and patient endurance with removing knots or shaving in intervals to relieve the amount of stress they experience does however influence the grooming price as it can take up to hours to complete one pet’s grooming.  Prices therefore vary between R50 – R350 per pet. 

It is important to make an appointment as it is dependent on availability and whether or not the pet needs to be scheduled with smaller dogs, dogs of its own breed or groomed in isolation from other dogs if there is a special need.

Mart Barnard deems it very important to provide a relaxing and positive experience and continually focuses on advancing her grooming skills through furthering her knowledge. She has completed the Companion Animal Grooming Course with Ethology Academy and passed as Best Practice.  She is also registered at KUSA and SABCAP.  Water therapy and K9 massaging is applied during the bath. Mart Barnard has completed two of the five courses of the Tellington TTouch Method.

and doesn’t handle any animal without respect or with force.

• Deepening the relationship and fostering clear communication between people and animals

TTouch bodywork uses a combination of circles, slides and lifts to increase awareness and sensation reduce stress and relax tension held in the body.  This allows the body to function to its full potential in the healing process.  As the body comes into balance, the mind and emotions follow.  TTouch works via the neurological system of the body.  Just as the brain sends messages to the body, the reverse is also true. Therefore, if there is tension in the body, there is a blockage of information to the brain. 

TTouch uses non-habitual movements to activate unused neurological pathways to the brain.  This indeed turns uncooperative animals into willing partners.  By stimulating different parts of the brain, we teach the animal to think and realize it has a choice of behaviour.

Mart Barnard has a passion for creating wedding dresses and has turned her talents towards clothing the four-pawed people.  She designs and sews most of the clothing herself, adding finishing touches of lace, buttons, ribbons and even diamante.

The Bark about it Boutique also stocks various clothing, toys and accessories from various brand names. There is something for every type of dog… Small, tall, big, bulky, fluffy, fury, fat and petite. Whatever you need, you’re sure to find the right fit.

Yorkies of Amarba is a KUSA registered breeder (Registration no. 1018724).  Choosing a Yorkie is more than purchasing a dog.  It is about far more than letting a cold nose warm your heart and your lap. Yorkshire Terriers or Yorkies as they are fondly referred to is a specialised breed. 

Yorkshire Terriers are breed that have become synonymous with almost being little humans who grace our lives with love, companionship, adventure, excitement and endearing experiences. When choosing a Yorkie you are in fact choosing a new family member.

Yorkies of Amarba is a responsible breeder breeding Yorkies of excellence. Mart Barnard’s very first Yorkie, Dasia has won numerous Reserved Championship certificates. Her greatest achievement, apart from being mommy’s precious princes is having won three Championships at the KUSA Breeders Show in South Africa. Dasia is from the same pedigree as that of the current breeding pairs. 

There are currently four dames namely Emma, Jasmyn, Avanja & Alazne as well as two studs; Romeo and Madiba(Mr President), all of whom have excellent pedigree and some are decendant from champions.

Healthy puppies are cared for up until twelve weeks before being adopted by their families. Upon adoption at twelve weeks they are already micro-chipped, inoculated, ‘house trained'(with any young Yorkie it is an ongoing process of discipline), well socialised and eating solid food.

The adoption process and the careful consideration whether or not you and your family would be ready to adopt a Yorkie is a process.
